I've always wondered if comic book artists like those above might have been venting a little in their work, that one brief moment they can bring it into the story without raising eyebrows, or if they found it tantalizing in any way. Vintage works always seem very willing to show flesh and an edge of deviousness. I also wonder how many boys read this stuff and forever remember that old comic book they read long ago, never forgetting the excitement it brought. Perhaps they saw it once, and secretly wished to find it again. Maybe they poured over that scene, reading it and rereading it, unable to escape its allure. I have a few early memories of literature and film from which I have apparently never recovered.
